Principals of the music ensembles Barokksolistene from Norway and Solamente naturali from Slovakia their long-standing dream – the preparation of a joint musical programme called One Music. You will find in it passion for early music, hours of searching in music archives, unceasing discussions over its interpretations in contemporary performance, compositions by young composers inspired by Nordic music, Roma or Jewish music, hundreds of hours of discussions, rehearsals, workshops, jam sessions, concert demonstrations by Norwegian and Slovak musicians, students, music teachers.
The project was supported by the EEA/Norway Grants Culture Programme and State Budget of the Slovak Republic 2014-20 and runs from November 2021 to October 2023.
The project creates an imaginary bridge between the old musical expressions of Slavic and Nordic music, which are recorded in Slovak and Norwegian music archives and will be performed in the old historical perspective, and new compositions that will be inspired by the old music.
It is this mutual interaction of old and new, the search for a common moment of “one music” that is interesting not only for the music professional public, but also for the wider viewing public.
The programme will be composed of compositions from the repertoires of both ensembles, but also of new compositions by composers Jon Balke from Norway and Michal Pálek and Daniel Matej from Slovakia.
They will be complemented by music from minorities (Roma, Jewish, Sami, Viking) and performances from a dozen workshops at art schools in Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Nitra, Bratislava, Trondheim, Oslo and Bergen.
The public will encounter the One Music programme at concerts and festivals in Slovakia and Norway, as well as at a seminar on artistic freedom. The project will also include a series of concerts for children from socially excluded, especially Roma communities, for children with special needs.
